The Korea Music Copyright Association (Chairman Choo Sang-yeol, hereinafter referred to as the TME) recently held talks with Tencent Music Entertainment Group (Chairman Kushion Fang, hereinafter referred to as TME) at the Andaz Hotel in Macau, China, and announced that the collection and distribution of Korean music copyright fees in China has been expanded in earnest through cooperation between the two sides.
Producer Lee Soo-man, Vice Chairman of the Park Semester at Mjeoheop, Secretary-General Hwang Sun-chul, Chairman of TME Cushion Fang, President Michael Zeng, Vice President Tsai Chunfan, and Director Dora were present at the meeting.
The meeting was made by producer Lee Soo-man and vice chairman Park Hak-hak with the aim of strengthening the protection of Korean music copyrights in China, and it is evaluated that a new breakthrough has been made in establishing a network in China, where the two have been struggling.
In particular, producer Lee Soo-man emphasized the importance of international cooperation to protect Korean music copyrights in China, adding to the discussion of cooperation based on his long experience in the global music industry and wide network. He expressed his intention to further expand cooperation with this meeting to help protect Korean music copyrights lead to practical results.
TME, the counterpart of the talks, is a representative company that manages major digital music service providers in China and includes platform operators similar to Melon, Genie, and Bugs in Korea. As TME is a key operator in charge of the world's largest online music market, the cooperation is significant in that it can directly affect the protection of the rights of Korean music and the expansion of profits.
At this meeting, the two sides shared major issues in the music industry in each country and agreed on the need for long-term cooperation to prevent and standardize data leakage. It then discussed specific improvement tasks such as integrated management of copyright data and standardization of local language-based databases, and agreed to open a working Hot Line to protect rights holders. This is a rare case of direct communication with major foreign music providers, and it is expected to serve as an opportunity to quickly respond to copyright issues and strengthen cooperation between Korea and China in the future.
