The creative musical 『Man in Hanbok』 has unveiled its lineup of actors.
Ahead of its premiere in December, 'Man in Hanbok' encompasses the stage aesthetics and Korean sentiment of European musicals, and at the same time, it will deeply resonate with today's audience through the story of Jang Young-sil, who has crossed the limits of his status and moved toward his dream. Based on the original narrative that combines history and imagination and the spatio-temporal structure that crosses Joseon, Italy, modernity, and the past, Act 1 and Act 2 are set in Joseon and Europe, providing an experience as if watching two completely different performances. In particular, the grandeur of Gyeongbokgung Palace's Geunjeongjeon in the Joseon Dynasty and the splendor of the European Renaissance period intersect, and it presents a differentiated stage aesthetic that combines the aesthetics of K-historical dramas and European-style epic dramas. In addition, the work consists of two roles per person, capturing the contradictions of society and the human group in three dimensions in a structure that crosses time and space. Actors are expected to play opposite characters at the same time and further increase the immersion of the play.
Park Eun-tae, Jeon Jeon Dong-seok, and Go Eun-sung were cast in the role of Kang Bae, a scholar who traces the truth of Joseon's genius scientists Young-sil and memorabilia. In the released character photo, they expressed the appearance of Youngsil standing in an unfamiliar Italian space in antique hanbok, a reproduction of Rubens' drawing 'Man in Hanbok', which will be worn in the actual performance. It then raised the expectations of the work by contrasting Yeongsil, who dreams of a star in front of Cheonmudo Island, and Kangbae, who is disconnected from the world and only focuses on books.
Sejong, who created Hunminjeongeum for the people and worked hard to develop science, and Kai, Shin Seong-rok and Lee Kyu-hyung will play the role of PD Jin-seok, a broadcaster who pursues the truth in the memorandum. Min Young-ki and Choi Min-chul star in the role of Professor Ma, who helps Young-sil turn a blind eye to the truth of the leader Jeong-hwa and the memorandum, but eventually helps Kang-bae and Jin-seok.
Director Kwon Eun-ah, who has been active in 'Matahari', 'Mozart!', 'Excalibur', 'Monte Cristo', centered on executive producer Um Hong-hyun, was in charge of writing, writing, and directing the play. In addition, Lee Seong-jun (Brandon Lee) of 'Benher' and 'Frankenstein' is the director of composition and music, dramatically expressing the narrative of the work and the delicate emotions of the characters with the most Korean and global melody.
'Man in Hanbok' will open at the Chungmu Art Center Grand Theater on December 2nd and will open the first ticket at the end of September.
