'Handsome Guys' won the jury prize at the Florence Korean Film Festival from the 20th to the 28th. As a result, it caught the attention of audiences around the world, receiving another love call from the leading film festivals following the 57th Chesse Film Festival Audience Award, which was awarded last year.
The Florence Korean Film Festival serves as a cultural bridge to introduce a variety of works to Italy without boundaries between material and form, including independence, short films, blockbusters, and genre works.
This year, actor Hwang Jung-min's retrospective exhibition was held, and directors Na Hong-jin, Choo Chang-min, and Lee Jong-pil attended, raising domestic attention amid the interest of major figures in the Korean film industry. The award of this 'Handsome Guys' left a significant footprint of expanding the scope of the genre while retaining global popularity beyond the limits of language.
The jury said, `The director Nam Dong-hyeop's production, which transcends horror and comedy, and the flexibility of applying Korean movies to Western subjects stand out,' adding, `Do not be deceived by appearances, which is necessary for our society,' were completed with a screenplay boasting overwhelming performance and rapid development by the leading actors, and noted that the movie cannot be missed during the festival period," said the reason for the Prime Minister.
Director Nam Dong-hyeop, who created a fresh wind in Chungmuro with his feature film debut, said, `We are grateful to officials and audiences of the Korean Film Festival in Florence. I will try to be invited again to the next work."
Handsome Guys', which has established itself as a representative work of the Korean movie comedy genre, has continued to contact the audience by launching VOD services and distributing them to global OTT since the screening of domestic theaters. According to statistics from the online theater integrated computer network of the Korea Film Council, 'Handsome Guys' attracted 1.77 million moviegoers, followed by about 330,000 online use cases such as IPTV payments, recording a cumulative number of 2.1 million,850.
'Handsome Guys' is a story about a secret sealed in a basement waking up on the day two men move into a new house dreaming of a rural life. It stars Lee Sung-min, Lee Hee-joon, Gong Seung-yeon, Park Ji-hwan and Lee Kyu-hyung, and is director Nam Dong-hyeop's first feature directorial debut.
