The Constitutional Court on the 1st informed the National Assembly (claimer) and President Yoon (claimer) that the impeachment trial will be held at 11 a.m. on the 4th, three days later.
The sentencing date was designated 111 days after President Yoon was impeached on December 14 last year, and 35 days after the hearing was concluded on the 25th of last month.
Until now, broadcasters have been focusing on the date of President Yoon's impeachment trial. Since it is an important issue of impeachment of the president, the sentencing trial will be broadcast live on the three terrestrial broadcasters as well as on general cable channels.
As a result, existing morning dramas, entertainment shows, and current affairs liberal arts programs will be canceled. During the impeachment trial of former President Park Geun Hye in 2017, big entertainment programs and music broadcasting programs were canceled one after another.
Even after the sentencing trial is over, it is highly likely that news related to the results of the impeachment trial will be organized into a special security system. As a result, dramas and entertainment programs in the late evening are not expected to be canceled one after another.
Initially, the date of the impeachment trial of President Yoon was expected to be on the 14th of last month in consideration of the precedent of the former president. This is because both former President Roh Moo Hyun and former President Park Geun Hye's impeachment trial were sentenced on Friday within two weeks after the closing of the hearing.
As a result, broadcasters have been watching the Constitutional Court's position every week and have been prepared to respond immediately. However, the hearing on President Yoon's impeachment was about three weeks later than expected in April.
The broadcaster, who had been waiting for the sentencing day for more than a week, began full-fledged discussions when the sentencing date was finally designated. Attention is focusing on how the results of the sentence, as well as the impeachment trial, will affect broadcasters and the schedule.
