The 30th Busan International Film Festival announced the start of the festival in earnest with a grand finale.
The opening ceremony of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), Asia's largest film festival, was held at the outdoor stage of the Haeundae-gu Film Center in Busan on the afternoon of the 17th.
The red carpet event, which was held prior to the opening ceremony, featured all domestic and foreign stars and directors to decorate the night in Busan. The Busan International Film Festival has switched to a competitive film festival starting this year. A total of 14 works were invited to the competition sector, and the Busan Awards will be awarded in five categories: Grand Prize, Director Award, Special Jury Award, Actor Award, and Art Contribution Award. Actors Han Hyo-joo, Yang Ga-hwi, producer Yulia Evina Bahara, director Kogonada, Margiye Meshkini, Nandita Das and Na Hong-jin are listed as judges, and the results of the awards will be released on the closing day.

Lee Byung-hun, the sole host of the opening ceremony, said, `A small dream that started 30 years ago in the city of Busan is now a representative film festival in Asia.' `This year, I have become a movie star in my 30th year. Now I feel a little bit like an actor. The Busan International Film Festival is no different from growing up with me. There are some particularly memorable moments in the long journey. When I first came here, I was looking forward to 'Will I be able to go on that stage someday?' but I'm on this stage today. Thank you very much."
At the opening ceremony, the Asian Film of the Year Award (director Jafar Panahi), the Korean Film Achievement Award (director Jung Ji-young), the Camellia Award (director, actor, and producer Sylvia Chang), and the BIFF Cinema Master Honorary Award (director Marco Velocchio) were presented.
Camellia Award-winning director Sylvia Chang made her first film as an actress in 1972 and completely fell for it. Since then, I've been working hard without a break. I got married and became a mother in the middle, but I never gave up on the movie. While writing the screenplay, I became a director and a producer, and I rather fell deeper into it." Then "It was difficult, of course, but those difficulties seem to have given me a greater boost. In that sense, the Camellia flower is like a symbol of love and dedication to me. Today, with excitement, I would like to share my new work 'Ta-year Tile' with everyone who attended the festival. I want to show you that I'm still alive. I'm so happy."

Director Jung Ji-young, who received the Korean Film Achievement Award, said, `When it comes to directing, I have been in the movie for 50 years. It was my life to talk and communicate with the audience. In front of the camera, there were many actors who worked hard and behind the scenes, many staff members who stayed up all night with me. And the audience who watched and watched the movie seriously made me here."
In the meantime, "It was not smooth for 50 years, half a century. Sometimes I fought the rough waves and rowed hard. During the days of military dictatorship, we fought against censorship, and when Hollywood movies dominated the market, we fought against them. When large corporations operated investment distribution exclusively, they fought over the problem. Meanwhile, the 30th Busan International Film Festival will be held for 10 days from the 17th to the 26th around the Film Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan. The total number of official screenings was 241, up 17 from last year. Including the screenings of Community Beef, a related program, the total number of screenings is 328.
