Fifty Fifty’s ‘Cupid’ Copyright Dispute Set to Drag On as Court Rules Against Attract

The dispute over Fifteen Pifties 'Cupid' is expected to prolong.

On the 8th, the Civil Affairs Department 62 of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Lee Hyun-seok) ruled against the plaintiff in a copyright confirmation lawsuit filed by Attacks, an agency of PFT, against Dougybus led by outsourced music producer Ahn Sung-il.

'Cupid' is a mega hit song released in 2023 by PFTP, which reached No. 17 on the U.S. Billboard main singles chart 'Hot100' and hit the milestone of being a 25-week chart-in.

Attract argued that "Ahn Sung-il paid about $9,000 (W11.7 million) to Swedish students and bought out, and CEO Jeon Hong-joon returned the song fee, but Dougie Bus did not provide information on the copyright purchase.' It also said that the service contract signed with Dougie Bus included copyright transfer work.

On the other hand, Dugibus refuted "What Attract pays for and holds is not a copyright, but a right of a record producer 'adjacent rights'."

In the end, the court rejects the Plaintiff's claim because there is no reason"The contract does not specify the details of the copyright transfer, and in fact, Dougiebus took the high risk and proceeded with the contract at the discretion of the creator." he ruled.

The court hereby acknowledged that the party to the copyright transfer agreement was Dougie Bus, and that all substantial actions, including contract signing, negotiation, and cost-bearing, were carried out through Dougie Bus," he said.

Attract countered that "currently preparing an appeal with a legal review".

Apart from the copyright lawsuit, Attract and The Givers are in the process of filing civil and criminal complaints over allegations of tampering. Last year, PPT Saena Aranciokina filed a provisional injunction to suspend the validity of the exclusive contract, saying the settlement of Attract is unclear, and Attract raised suspicions about Ahn Sung-il's tampering. The court ruled in favor of Attract, and Kina dropped the charges and returned to Attract.

Attract has added four more new members, reshaping Fifteen into a quintet and writing a new syndrome with 'Pukki'. In addition, he filed a lawsuit for damages against Saena Arancio and Ahn Sung-il. Saena Arancio has formed a three-member girl group, "Abloom," and is preparing to re-debut with Ahn Sung-il.
