The Busan International Film Festival finally elected Jeong Han-seok (current) Korean film programmer as the new executive chairman through the 3rd board meeting and the 2nd extraordinary general meeting held at the Seoul Cinema Center on the 20th.
The Busan International Film Festival Executive Recommendation Committee (hereinafter referred to as Lim Chu-won) closely reviewed the right person to present the stable operation and future vision of the festival through two open recruitments of executive chairman from January to March 2025, and Park Kwang-soo, chairman of the board, recommended programmer Jeong Han-seok as the final candidate among the two candidates recommended by Lim Chu-won. After a board meeting on the 20th, an extraordinary general meeting passed the final vote on candidate Jeong Han-seok.
Candidate Jeong-seok understands the film festival's internal and external environment and various circumstances, and he is the right person with the ability to take the film festival to the next level, Lim said in a recommendation.
Jeong Han-seok, the new executive chairman of the committee, entered the film industry in 2002 after winning the Cine 21 Film Criticism Award and worked as a Cine 21 reporter and film critic, and was recognized for his in-depth insight into the film industry and analysis of his works. Since 2019, he has been a Korean film programmer at the Busan International Film Festival, successfully serving as a bridge between the domestic film industry and the festival, and in particular, he has actively contributed to laying the foundation for the future of the Korean film industry by discovering and supporting emerging directors who will lead the future of Korean film.
In addition, it has established a wide international network through various domestic and international activities, including judges at the Buil Film Awards, judges at the Jeonju International Film Festival and the Seoul Independent Film Festival, the Florence Korean Film Festival and the Hong Kong Asian Film Awards Advisors.
Executive Chairman Jeong Han-seok's term will begin on March 21, 2025, and he will lead the festival for the next four years for the development and stable operation of the Busan International Film Festival.
