Director Bong Joon-ho once again made a new history through the science fiction film 'Mickey 17'.

'Mickey 17' is a film adaptation of Edward Ashton's new novel 'Mickey 7' published in 2022. When Mickey dies as a consumable for dangerous work, he is reprinted during his 17th death crisis, and he thinks he is dead and tells the unpredictable story of Mickey 18 being printed.

Above all, 'Mickey 17' is attracting worldwide attention in that it is a new work by director Bong Joon-ho. Earlier, expectations were higher as director Bong Joon-ho of 『Parasite" (19), who swept Korea's first best picture, director, screenplay and international film awards at the 92nd Academy Awards held in 2020, was the next film to be presented in six years and Warner Bros., a major Hollywood studio, produced it. It is the third English-language film for director Bong Joon-ho since the 2013 movie Snowpiercer and the 2017 Netflix movie Okja.

The evaluation of 'Mickey 17', which has been lifted amid much expectation, is hot. In Korea, where director Bong Joon-ho became National Treasure Show, it was released on the 28th of last month and surpassed 1 million viewers in three days and 2 million in 10 days, occupying the theater. It is not surprising that it topped the box office for 10 consecutive days with an overwhelming number of viewers from the day of its release.

Starting with North America on the 7th, the signboards in theaters such as France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Taiwan, and China are not explosive due to the off-season market, but they are still showing 'ticket power' to prove their name value. In particular, in North America, 'Mickey 17' earned $7.7 million (about 11.157.3 billion won) on the first day of 3,807 theaters on the 7th, $6.7 million (about 9.78 billion won) on the 8th, and 4.7 million (about 6.81 billion won) on the 9th, recording $1.9 million (about 27.675.9 billion won) on the first weekend. Although it is slightly below the original estimate of $20 million (about 28.98 billion won), it is analyzed that 'Mickey 17' did well in a difficult environment considering the off-season in Hollywood. If $34.2 million (about 49.55 billion won) is added outside North America, the global box office of 『Mickey 17" was finally recorded at $53.3 million (about 77.231 billion won).

Even under unfavorable conditions, the box office hit 'Mickey 17' Director Bong Joon-ho's record march, which is more advanced than before, also attracts attention. As `Mickey 17' topped the box office in North America, director Bong Joon-ho added the title 'First North American Box Office Record in the History of Korean Directors' It is the first Korean director to win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Picture. Of course, not only North America but also France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and Italy ranked first in the box office, proving 'Bong Joon-ho Power' once again.
