Disney+ executives praised their Korean content production capabilities.

On the 13th, 'Disney+ Original Preview 2025(Disney+ Original Preview 2025)' was held at the Cinderella Ballroom at the Disneyland Hotel Conference Center in Hong Kong.

'Disney+ Original Preview 2025' is an event where you can preview APAC (Asia-Pacific) and global original content scheduled to be released on Disney+. On this day, the general entertainment lineup, including APAC originals in Korea and Japan, was introduced.

The event was attended by about 400 reporters from 14 countries, including Japan, the United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Mexico and Brazil, including about 100 Korean reporters.

At the end of the event, a global and Asia-Pacific leadership talk session was organized. Eric Schrier, president of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy, and Carol Choi, general director of Walt Disney Company's Asia-Pacific Original Content Strategy, talked about it.

First, Eric Schrier, president of the company, said "We have a great IP. It is also important to create content for each region. Complementing that global IP is regionally customized content. Each region is trying to create content that represents the region. What's really fun and encouraging for me is that creators around the world are working hard and loved" Greeted.

"We wanted to show how important the Disney Asia-Pacific region is and how much we want to invest in it," said Carol Choy.

President Eric Schrier has been in the industry for 25 years. Our job is to create the environment as much as possible, listen to the creators' stories, and actually put them on the screen. I'm an American and I'm not proud of what Korean or Japanese audiences want. I'm just doing the job I'm applying for..." he said, expressing humility.

General manager Carol Choey said, `I feel honored to be able to get the best results with people in the industry. First of all, it's a great story. Everything happens there. The word storytelling seems to be popular, and Disney is a company that does it. I want to find out what kind of cool characters and narratives there are, and especially, I want to capture the top creators and local culture. It's a local-for-local strategy."

"Looking at the response today, I think I'm doing well. 'Moving' and 'Nine Puzzle' have won many awards. For us, it felt like we were compensated. I want to continue to utilize the strategy and provide the best content for the region," he said.

There were also questions about how to balance the global and regional world. President Eric Schrier says, `I look at the artistic part, not just the mathematical part. See which parts are important for each region. They are also trying to take risks. I didn't know a show like 'Star Wars' would be so big a hit. You should be able to take risks. Working internationally allows great artists to take the risk. It contains a culturally diverse story. Since it is original, it has a variety of storytelling methods and contents. So there are things I learn from watching. Think about whether these contents and formats can work well in other countries. In fact, Korean dramas are loved even in the distance."

Director Carol Choy said "We are a global platform, but I think the basis of everything is authentic storytelling. Of course, those contents can be loved and should be empathized around the world. So we use partnerships with the global team," he added.

It also pointed to recent trends in content. President Eric Schrier said, `The movie is trying to figure out the trend by watching the TV industry. Korean romance dramas are gaining sensational popularity overseas. Short-form series are doing well, and comedy-like drama formats are working well. I don't have much time, so I think a 30-minute drama is a recent trend. I also try to keep the episode as short as possible. I thought it was difficult to hold people's concentration for a long time. "

He then emphasized "The most important thing is actually to show a locally empathetic story."

Director Carol Choi also said, `This is where we have the most sophisticated and digitally outstanding capabilities. Micro short-forms are the trend. This is what started with APAC. How to apply this to Disney, I keep trying new formats. I'm going to show you a new genre, and I'm going to show you a lot of entertainment."

President Eric Schrier said "We're focused on fandom, and we want to create one. We are trying to build a portfolio that can embrace this more."

As for the performance so far, General Manager Carol Choy said "We said we would start our first local original business in 2021, but we also suspected that our goal was high." We've worked hard, and I think we've achieved a lot through your support. I think it's worthwhile. We value the quality of the works we will continue to produce," he said, expressing his pride.

President Eric Schrier also said, `Korean dramas and Korean viewers are very talented. Globally, the theme can create empathy. There are natural talents that only Korea has, such as humanity, warmth, and originality. The production level is very high," he said, praising the Korean content capabilities.

He then emphasized, "It is very rewarding and heart-throbbing to tell the story of the Asia-Pacific region to the world."
