CJ CGV announced on the 8th that it recorded 533.6 billion won in sales and 3.2 billion won in operating profit in the first quarter of this year. Global markets such as China and Vietnam are recovering rapidly, and CJ Olive Networks' business growth, which was incorporated last year, continues to be in the black.
Looking at the detailed performance, CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of CJ CGV, recently accelerated its growth by signing a big deal with AMC, the world's largest theater chain, and recorded 26.5 billion won in sales. Sales of SCREENX, 4DX, and original contents have risen significantly as contents of special technology at home and abroad increase, continuing the business's upward trend. There was a slight deficit due to the execution of strategic costs such as marketing for business expansion, system construction, and strengthening new business and sales competitiveness.
In China, it achieved its largest quarterly operating profit ever, recording 105 billion won in sales and 18.9 billion won in operating profit due to the recovery of the Lunar New Year market. Both sales and operating profit increased significantly as 'Nuja 2' broke China's highest box office, and local contents such as 'Dang Tam 1900' and 'Bongshin: Telephone Biography' were popular during the Lunar New Year peak season.
Vietnam also achieved its largest quarterly operating profit ever, recording 76.8 billion won in sales and 12.9 billion won in operating profit as the movie market continued to grow. During the Vietnamese Lunar New Year season, local comedy content such as 'Bo Tu Bao Than' and 'Nu Hon Bac Ty' led the sales increase, breaking the highest quarterly performance ever following the previous year.
Due to the Ramadan off-season and lack of local content, sales of 17.2 billion won in Indonesia, operating loss of 1.3 billion won, sales of 38.5 billion won and operating loss of 500 million won in Turkiye.
Last year, due to the base effect of the release of 'Fillage' and the market reduction due to the absence of box office hits in the first quarter, it recorded 128.3 billion won in sales and 31 billion won in operating losses in Korea.
CJ Olive Networks continued to grow due to strengthened new overseas order activities, recording 188.9 billion won in sales and 8.6 billion won in operating profit. Profitability has also improved due to smart logistics, retail tech, and next-generation system construction projects.
In the second quarter, CJ CGV predicted that CJ 4DPLEX will continue to grow due to its growth in the global market, improved business structure in Korea, and strengthened local content lineups in each country.
In detail, CJ 4DPLEX plans to strengthen the spread of special technology through strategic collaboration with major global multiplexes centered on strategic countries such as the United States, Europe, and Asia. It is expected that the release of highly popular works such as global box office hits 'Minecraft Movie' and animation 'How to Train Your Dragon' will continue in the second quarter.
Global markets such as China, Vietnam, and Indonesia are expected to continue to grow as the movie market enters a full recovery. It plans to continue its efforts to increase sales and strengthen profitability by activating the production and distribution of local masterpiece contents in each country. It is also expected to increase the share of each country by expanding alternative contents such as live performances of artists at home and abroad and live broadcasting of LCK.
Expectations are high for the release of masterpiece contents for all generations in Korea, including 'Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning', 'How to Train Your Dragon', 'Soju War', and 'High Five'. It plans to improve its profit structure by improving its constitution through operational efficiency such as closing chronic deficit sites.
CJ CGV CEO Chung Jong-min said "We will continue to improve our constitution by improving our business structure in Korea amid the recovery of the global market centered on China and Vietnam."This year, CJ 4DPLEX's SCREENX and 4DX global expansion will further accelerate business growth, diversify its business portfolio, and continue to grow."."
