Coupang Play, the organizer of the performance, made an official statement on the 19th and announced that 'YE Concert', which was scheduled for the 31st, was inevitably canceled due to singer Kanye's recent controversy. In addition, the sale of brand MD products (Yeezy goods), which were being sold to commemorate Korea, was also suspended as of 1 p.m. that day.
On the 8th, Kanye West released a digital single 'Hail Hitler' on the anniversary of Europe's World War II victory, causing a stir. The song samples Hitler's 1935 speech, followed by "My friends are all Nazis. The lyrics "Long live Hitler" have been repeated more than ten times, drawing controversy over Jewish hatred and Nazi praise.
Jim Burke, head of the American Jewish human rights group Simone Wiesenthal Center, strongly criticized the song in an interview with Billboard magazine, saying, `It is a clear hate speech that was released on the day of the defeat of the Nazi regime.'
This is not the first extreme remark made by Kanye.
In a 2022 interview, Kanye also sparked controversy by releasing an image combining the Nazi pattern Hakenkreuz and the Jewish symbol David's Star, saying "I like Hitler."
In February, X wrote "I'm the Nazis" or "I love Hitler."It caused a stir by posting something like ".
Meanwhile, Coupang Play did not disclose the specific reason for the cancellation.
