He, who was tried for drug use in 2022 and vowed to take a single dose, has been at the center of controversy again in just two years due to an aberration of drunk driving.
According to the police on the 8th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul booked Nam Tae-hyun on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act on the 27th of last month.
Nam Tae-hyun reportedly crashed into a median strip at 4:10 a.m. on the 27th of last month while trying to overtake a vehicle near Dongjak Bridge in the direction of Ilsan, Gangbyeonbuk-ro.
Fortunately, there were no casualties at the time of the accident, but Nam Tae-hyun's blood alcohol concentration was at the level of the license cancellation standard (0.08%).
The police applied for an arrest warrant on the 2nd, considering that the incident occurred during the probation period. However, the court held an interrogation of the suspect before arrest on the 7th and rejected it, saying there was no fear of destroying evidence.
Accordingly, the police will soon send Nam Tae-hyun without detention.
Earlier in August 2022, Nam Tae-hyun was put on trial for taking methamphetamine at his home in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with his then lover, Seo Min-jae, a cast member of Channel A love entertainment show 'Heart Signal 3'. In December of that year, he was also accused of purchasing and administering methamphetamine through Telegram abroad. As a result, Nam Tae-hyun was sentenced to one year in prison in January 2023, suspended for two years, taking probation and drug treatment lectures, and 120 hours of community service.
After causing a social stir, he showed his strong will and took action. He voluntarily entered a drug rehabilitation center in Seoul and received treatment, and based on his experience, he attended a parliamentary audit of the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee in the same year and complained of the seriousness and risk of drug addiction. At that time, Nam Tae-hyun showed a sincere attitude, saying, `I hope that young people who have been on drugs like me can get back on their feet.' Since then, he has participated in anti-drug campaigns and expressed his willingness to live a 'new life' to the public.
But the pledge did not last long. In March 2023, while being investigated for drug charges, Nam Tae-hyun caused another social stir. He crashed into a parked car while driving under the influence of alcohol in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. At that time, the blood alcohol level was at the level of suspension of his license, and he was issued a summary order with a fine of 6 million won. Many could not hide their bitterness at his repeated attitude of driving under the influence of drugs.
