Oyoanna, who joined MBC in 2021 and has been active as a weatherman, suddenly passed away in September last year. The exact cause of death was not known at the time, but earlier this year, the suicide note was released, raising suspicions that 'bullying in the workplace'. The suicide note specifically stated that he had been bullied by two certain senior weather forecasters, and the bereaved family filed a civil lawsuit against one of them.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor said that the deceased had been receiving business guidance and advice from time to time since joining the company, but the process went beyond simple work guidance and led to repeated criticism and mental pressure. The Ministry of Employment and Labor judged that "it is a harassment considering the emotional pain felt by the deceased, who is a newbie in society, repeated unnecessary remarks, and the contents of the will."
However, the Ministry of Employment and Labor said that the anti-bullying clause in the workplace does not apply legally on the grounds that the deceased does not fall under the Labor Standards Act 'Worker'. Accordingly, the issue of institutional blind spots was also pointed out.
In this regard, MBC said "We take this result seriously and will make efforts to improve the organizational culture, prevent recurrence, and comply with labor-related laws as the top priority of management." He then promised to respond, saying, `We will take appropriate measures against those involved and review and supplement the previously submitted organizational culture improvement plan.'
