Cha In-pyo Wins 14th Hwang Soon-won Literature Award for Novel ‘Mermaid Hunt’

Actor Cha In-pyo won the Hwang Soon-won Literature Award.

Cha In-pyo was announced as the winner of the 「14th Hwang Soon-won Literature Award」 announced by the Hwang Soon-won Memorial Society on the 4th.

Cha In-pyo's novel 'Mermaid Hunt' (Solution) received critical attention for showing his original imagination. 'Hunting the Mermaid' is a story about a fundamental desire to reveal the bare face of human beings to occupy the mermaid oil that lives a thousand years if eaten. The artist, who has been deeply devoted to humans, history, and oral traditions for a long time, tried to build a new Korean-style fantasy based on our place names and old stories containing Korean emotions. After collecting data for several years, he developed his ideas and records from the now-defunct Dokdo River in Tongcheon, Gangwon-do, and completed it with his own mysterious and unique story.

After winning the prize, Cha In-pyo "Hwang Soon-won Literature Prize Shin Jin-sang came as a quiet permission to continue writing novels in the future. In the future, I will write more modestly and deeply thinking about what really good novels are and what novels leave people impressed."

Cha In-pyo's wife and actor Shin Ae-ra also disappeared every day wearing a bag to write on her personal account, and at 5 p.m., she came in saying she was hungry, and she got an award full of this"I received the New Actor Award just before 30, but I didn't expect to receive the Emerging Writer Award just before 60. I guess I shouldn't give up on dreams. We don't know when it'll happen," he said, showing his affection for his husband.

The author's award went to Ju Su-ja, a novelist who wrote a novel "Finding a Novel Haerye Book" that depicts a historical narrative surrounding the tracking and preservation of the Hunminjeongeum Haerye Book. The Hwang Soon-won Memorial Society praised the work of Zhu Su-ja as a narrative that fiercely asks back the nature of literature and the identity of national language.

In his acceptance speech, Zhu said, `It's as if Hwang Sun-won gave me a literary award as a gift"It is a perfect honor to have the name of Hwang Soon-won, who protected his passion for literature, writer spirit, and innocence and truthfulness more than anyone else."

Poet Award was awarded to poet Kim Gu-seul of 「Island of Shadows" (Seojeong Poetry Studies), and poet Kang Jeong-rye won the grand prize for the Yangpyeongmun Award for the poetry collection 『My House Has a Ghost』 (Blue Mountain). Poet Noh Soon-hee and essayist Kim Eun-hee were selected as the winners of the Excellence Award in recognition of their consistent local literary activities and writing achievements.

The Hwang Soon-won Literature Award, hosted by the Hwang Soon-won Memorial Society, was established to commemorate the literary spirit of Hwang Soon-won (1915-2000), the author of 『Downpour』. This year's award ceremony will be held on the 12th of next month at the Shower Village in Hwangsoonwon Literature Village, Seojong-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do.
