On the 13th, an appeal trial was held for Arum and her boyfriend A, who were indicted on charges of fraud and other charges, at the hearing of the Suwon District Court's Criminal Appeals Division 5 (Kim Haeng-soon, Lee Jong-rok, Park Shin-young).
The court sentenced Arum to four months in prison, suspended for one year, and A to one year and four months in prison.
The court said "Arum conspired to find out that A committed fraud against her fans and others, and repeatedly committed crimes against the victim, so the guilt is not light." Mr. A has repeatedly committed fraud and is guilty because the total amount of damage is considerable. However, he/she is reflecting on his/her crime and took into account the fact that he/she agreed with some of the victims of the fraud" he said.
Arum and A were indicted on charges of borrowing about 37 million won from three fans and acquaintances and not paying it back. The victims filed a complaint between March and May last year, saying Arum borrowed money for personal reasons and did not pay it back. Arum denied all the allegations and admitted it was a sole crime. However, the prosecution also indicted A on charges of fraud. The first trial court sentenced Arum to six months in prison with two years of probation, and A to one year and six months in prison.
In addition, Arum was sentenced to two years of probation in August on charges of violating the law (defamation) on inducing the exploitation of minors, promoting the use of information and communication networks, and protecting information. Arum is set to appeal against the ruling and face a second trial.
Arum joined as a member of the tiara in 2012, but withdrew in 2013. He married a businessman two years older in 2019 and had two sons, but divorced. In the process, Arum confessed her romantic relationship with A and pregnancy before the divorce process was completed, causing a stir. Arum also had a conflict with A, claiming domestic violence, but reconciled and had two children with A.
