Police arrested seven people, including the domestic chief, who recruited 4,000 members through sports broadcasting app advertisements and made an unfair profit of about 1 billion won from illegal bets.

Gwacheon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province recently identified their hiding places through undercover investigations and arrested five people at the scene after obtaining a search and seizure warrant, and arrested two more domestic officers. Arrest warrants were issued for all of them.

They recruited members by posting advertising posts on the sports relay app, an Internet gambling site that has been operating in Cambodia and other countries since April 2022, and by calling them through personal information handed over from merchant ships, they invited them to make illegal sports Toto bets. In order to avoid tracking down investigative agencies, it has been confirmed that TM was operated by moving offices by short-term contracts for villas and apartments in Seoul, Suwon, and Gwacheon.

It is estimated that the illegal betting of members recruited through these activities will be at least 47 billion won, and the loss will reach 33 billion won. Each of the suspects made an illegal profit of taking about 4-5% of the membership loss they recruited as a commission. It was confirmed that the domestic chief also made an unfair profit worth 1 billion won. In particular, the domestic chief lived a luxurious life, living in a high-priced apartment of 50 pyeong in Seoul with proceeds from the crime and owning several luxury imported vehicles.

The police warned that `we will investigate the operators of Cambodian gambling sites and the lower domestic operators against the arrested domestic chief,' adding that `Internet gambling can be punished for gambling.'
